First Renault and Dongfeng electric car

A joint venture between Renault and Dongfeng Motor Group is planning to present its first electric car for the Chinese market in 2019. Two more emission-free models are planned to be created before 2022.

Intentions of Dongfeng Renault Automotive were announced by Francois Provost, Renault’s president for Asia and also the head of the joint venture. However, he did not provide details of the planned vehicle. The company was founded in 2013 and started the production in 2016.

According to information from local authorities of the Hubei province in central China, this is a small and inexpensive electric car. The vehicle will be produced at the plant of Shiyan under a new brand planned by Dongfeng-Renault.

Over the next four years, Dongfeng-Renault Alliance intends to launch three models of electric cars, with nine new models altogether.

In December last year, the French concern, together with Brilliance Jinbei Automobile, set up another company in China to produce multi-purpose vehicles and vans.
